Homemade Chocolate Goodness

So I love to make stuff from scratch it just tastes so much better most of the time. When I read about giving Hot chocolate as a gift I thought "Hell No I want that for myself"!
But seeing as I am so selfless I made them as gifts and kept a lot for myself. See sharing is fun.
I made Chocolate spoons to go with the Hot Chocolate mix.
Just melt chocolate using the double broiler method or microwave whichever is easier for you. Use plastic spoons and dip them in the melted Chocolate lay them on a cookie sheet, wait a couple of minutes for it to harden a little and sprinkle some candies on it.

Then wrap them in foil with a bow and gift them together with the mix.

Hot chocolate Mix
665 g dry milk powder
450 g sifted confectioners sugar
125 g unsweetened cocoa powder
150 g powdered non-dairy creamer ( flavored is awesome)

For it to get the nice powdery look you have to sift everything or it will look clumpy. This recipe makes quite a lot, I needed 4 gifts I got five plus some extra for myself.
I would only mix this with Milk but that is because I think mixing it with water is disgusting and should be against the law.
I used about 4 big whopping spoons in a mug of milk and some whip cream on top. It was divine let me tell you so have fun making this and forget about the sugar it's Christmas and it doesn't count everybody knows that.

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Why is that you ask?
Because it is the only time a year that I can listen to Christmas Muzak without being stared at like I'm weird.
I could listen to X-mas tunes all year round and I have to force myself to wait till after Thanksgiving to do it because like I said there is the weirdness factor.

I have put together a list with my top ten Christmas songs of all times.
These never fail to put me in the mood to spread tinsel on everything that doesn't move and shove cinnamon and cloves up my nostrils.

1.) Have yourself a Merry little Christmas ( Judy Garland)
2.) It's the most wonderful time of the year ( Andy Williams)
3.) Christmas cookies ( George Strait)
4.) The Christmas Song ( Nat King Cole)
5.) Merry Christmas Darling ( The Carpenters)
6.) Mele Kalikamaka ( Bette Midler)
7.) Marshmallow world ( Dean Martin)
8.)  Toyland (Doris-Day)
9.) My Grownup Christmas List ( Kelly Clarkson)
10.) Wonderful Dreams (Melanie Thornton)

Of course there are tons more that I love but these are a few that I really really love.
And now I have listened to it already.......but I have an excuse.

Glossip Girls

I like things handmade and when I can get together with my friends to make something it's way more fun. Of course it takes three times as long but gossiping and snacking is part of the fun.
I checked the Internet for recipes but it there was never any amounts given so I had to wing it.
There are a few things that I learned in the process.

1.) Beeswax makes a really hard chap stick.
2,) If you are going to make it smell good don't use aroma oils they don't smell strong enough.
3,) Make sure you wipe down the chap stick holders really good or the stickers will pop off.
4,) Don't mix the last batch with lipstick and cover all the other chap sticks with it because lipstick doesn't smell as nice.
How many times can you say chap stick in a paragraph?

The recipe that I used is this:
13 teaspoons Almond oil
18gr. Beeswax
60gr. Cocoa butter
6 drops of Peppermint oil

This fills about 12 tubes of chap stick each tube takes about 4,8 gr. or 7ml.
If you are going for a more glossy look then use more almond oil and less beeswax but remember it has to get hard enough so it doesn't melt in your pocket.

When I made this I used the double broiler method but I am sure that you can make it in the microwave but you have to be careful to not let it get too hot. You want the wax and the cocoa butter to melt well because if you don't it will separate after a while. Also don't add the oil till the end because it will just lose it's smell if it gets to hot. Add it right before you fill the tubes.  It won't smell as strong when it comes out of the pot but it will once the chap stick is hard you will smell it.

I used a syringe to fill the tubes and it was easy to just throw this out after I was done.

I kept one for myself and I tried it right away but like I said it was trial and error. The first batch was good because it stayed on my lips but didn't leave a mark on the glass and it did not come off at all,but it didn't have any shine whatsoever the second batch had more almond oil and less beeswax which is the recipe above and that had more shine which I prefer.
All in all I would say it was a success and I will be making more with different smells and maybe try some flavor too.

Gratitude for the Week-On Veterans and Their Mothers

Wow.....
I have several lists on my favorites list that I check on a couple times a week. I have it separated in sewing, crafts, funny and then there is inspiration. That is the blog that I go to whenever I feel like the wicked witch of the west and I want to run away from home.
That happens quite often but before I go and break something or I need perspective I go read some of my inspiration blogs. One of them is Clover lane.
It has anything and everything from cooking, cleaning, organizing or such posts as Gratitude.
Every week she writes about it and sometimes I agree and sometimes I really agree and sometimes I just read it and go on.
This week she wrote something that just made me think.
No matter what your stand is and what nationality you are this is for everyone.
It's about Life and walking a mile in someone else's shoes.
As a Mom. Not a Wife or a Husband but a Mom. What that means. And the answer to the question "Why am I doing this"?
So read it.....and you will be in awe.

Whale of a Tale

So as some of you know I am really pregnant at least that is what it feels like and what I look like.
I feel bad because I haven't posted in a while but I don't have anything that I can show you because they are presents. I am taking pictures as I go because I will be posting about them but right now I don't want to spoil the surprise.
I have to get my House ready for the Holidays and t is slow moving right now so I am starting early. That means lots of trips to Ikea and lots of hours at the sewing machine with breaks in between where I lay on the couch because the back & rib pain is killing me.
I know blah blah I am not the first person to be pregnant and it is not a disease.....leave me alone in my pain.
This weekend is the Glossip Girls workshop where we will be making our own lip gloss and chapstick so I will post about that this weekend.
For now I leave you to squash a hot water bottle in my back and feel sorry for myself.
