Still busy…

So I know I promised pictures of the showing but no can do. why you ask? Because it didn’t happen. The big Kahuna called it off for some unknown reason. It is on for next Monday. But in the meantime we have gained a few extra things too. See it’s a give and take. Monday is the showing and a final in economics. Tuesday is two finals and a two hour long practice test. Yeah like I need to practice being scared for a test. I am still sewing the two outfits that I will be showing on Monday because I am slow as molasses and because it took me about 5 hours to put a zipper in. I don’t know what happened it was crazy, I did do other things in between but not much.  so be patient little chickpeas I will be back soon.

New Burda

Today the new Burda came to my Mailbox for the first time. Usually I have to run around in the magazine stores and try to get one before they are sold out. But not ever again.
Now I can slobber all over it and mark the pages before it hits the stores. So that is what I was planning on doing except there wasn’t anything really to get excited about.

Most of the clothes look like Bags you pack old potatoes in. These girls are models and they still look like crap. Can you imagine what somebody with a normal body would look like?
They have two categories in this months edition.  Either you look like you are getting ready to do housework in your shapeless robe /dress  or you want to look like a trollop. Take your pick I dare ya.

I did like safari stuff that they have but after I had to go through that in school with City Safari I am not in the mood to safari anything.

So I will have to carefully go through it and try to make something work from this edition because I did kind of decide that I was going to make something from every single Burda that came out this year.

I know stupid right?
Take a look for yourself maybe it’s just me.

Arranging Fresh- cut Flowers

In case you are wondering why I think I am the authority on arranging flowers I am here to tell you I used to be a Floral Designer in my past life. Well before I decided to switch to Fashion Design.
There are few tricks to remember when arranging fresh cut flowers.
Always make a grid with tape. That way everything you put in will stay right where you put it and won’t fall over and lay on top of each other.roses1 roses
If you make a grid then you can arrange a vase full of lilies without greenery which is simple but elegant.
I used 20 roses for this vase and I have to say that I am really lucky because fresh flowers are very inexpensive here in Germany. But you can buy the packages at the gas station and arrange them in a nice vase and you can’t tell the difference.
Starting out right is the most important thing (duh) like you didn’t know that.
Making the grid with tape. Just regular scotch tape is perfect. Just criss cross it on your vase according to how big your vase is and how many flowers you are putting in. If you have flowers with thin stems then place your tape closer together.
Work from the inside to the outside. The first flower in the middle then to the left and the right of the middle flower. Then to the front and the back of the middle flower.
rose4After you have to first 5 flowers in the vase you start plugging your holes. If you put one in the front then you put one in the back. Just keep it even and it will always be round. You should place the vase on the floor and look at it from the top and you will be able to see where the holes are and if you are more heavy on one side. If you are using mixed flowers do it the same way just keep switching the different flowers so you don’t have all of one kind in the front. roses6
I like to arrange my flowers without greens because it looks more natural but make sure that the greens from your flowers are not in the water or it will turn green and start to smell after 2 days.
Always change your water every 2 days. That means empty the water and put fresh in don’t put clean water in with the old. :-) You don’t have to take the flowers out.
So go forth and try it.

I got a good start yesterday on the next dress that I have to make for school. The inspiration was the 50’s in the colors crème and champagne. I used a champagne colored Dupont silk that was stiff enough to have a stand on it’s own without the tulle that I added. It is not done obviously but it is getting there. The belt is not the one I will be using I will be making it out of crème satin but I am still waiting on the fabric. I made the little rosettes for the seam and the belt and I will be attaching those by hand when everything is done. Yes that is my tree in the background I haven’t taken it down yet.  In Germany you take it down on the 6th. elegant
So there you have it, I will be working on it more this week and if all goes well maybe I will wear it as my wedding dress.
