Homemade Chocolate Goodness

So I love to make stuff from scratch it just tastes so much better most of the time. When I read about giving Hot chocolate as a gift I thought "Hell No I want that for myself"!
But seeing as I am so selfless I made them as gifts and kept a lot for myself. See sharing is fun.
I made Chocolate spoons to go with the Hot Chocolate mix.
Just melt chocolate using the double broiler method or microwave whichever is easier for you. Use plastic spoons and dip them in the melted Chocolate lay them on a cookie sheet, wait a couple of minutes for it to harden a little and sprinkle some candies on it.

Then wrap them in foil with a bow and gift them together with the mix.

Hot chocolate Mix
665 g dry milk powder
450 g sifted confectioners sugar
125 g unsweetened cocoa powder
150 g powdered non-dairy creamer ( flavored is awesome)

For it to get the nice powdery look you have to sift everything or it will look clumpy. This recipe makes quite a lot, I needed 4 gifts I got five plus some extra for myself.
I would only mix this with Milk but that is because I think mixing it with water is disgusting and should be against the law.
I used about 4 big whopping spoons in a mug of milk and some whip cream on top. It was divine let me tell you so have fun making this and forget about the sugar it's Christmas and it doesn't count everybody knows that.

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Why is that you ask?
Because it is the only time a year that I can listen to Christmas Muzak without being stared at like I'm weird.
I could listen to X-mas tunes all year round and I have to force myself to wait till after Thanksgiving to do it because like I said there is the weirdness factor.

I have put together a list with my top ten Christmas songs of all times.
These never fail to put me in the mood to spread tinsel on everything that doesn't move and shove cinnamon and cloves up my nostrils.

1.) Have yourself a Merry little Christmas ( Judy Garland)
2.) It's the most wonderful time of the year ( Andy Williams)
3.) Christmas cookies ( George Strait)
4.) The Christmas Song ( Nat King Cole)
5.) Merry Christmas Darling ( The Carpenters)
6.) Mele Kalikamaka ( Bette Midler)
7.) Marshmallow world ( Dean Martin)
8.)  Toyland (Doris-Day)
9.) My Grownup Christmas List ( Kelly Clarkson)
10.) Wonderful Dreams (Melanie Thornton)

Of course there are tons more that I love but these are a few that I really really love.
And now I have listened to it already.......but I have an excuse.

Glossip Girls

I like things handmade and when I can get together with my friends to make something it's way more fun. Of course it takes three times as long but gossiping and snacking is part of the fun.
I checked the Internet for recipes but it there was never any amounts given so I had to wing it.
There are a few things that I learned in the process.

1.) Beeswax makes a really hard chap stick.
2,) If you are going to make it smell good don't use aroma oils they don't smell strong enough.
3,) Make sure you wipe down the chap stick holders really good or the stickers will pop off.
4,) Don't mix the last batch with lipstick and cover all the other chap sticks with it because lipstick doesn't smell as nice.
How many times can you say chap stick in a paragraph?

The recipe that I used is this:
13 teaspoons Almond oil
18gr. Beeswax
60gr. Cocoa butter
6 drops of Peppermint oil

This fills about 12 tubes of chap stick each tube takes about 4,8 gr. or 7ml.
If you are going for a more glossy look then use more almond oil and less beeswax but remember it has to get hard enough so it doesn't melt in your pocket.

When I made this I used the double broiler method but I am sure that you can make it in the microwave but you have to be careful to not let it get too hot. You want the wax and the cocoa butter to melt well because if you don't it will separate after a while. Also don't add the oil till the end because it will just lose it's smell if it gets to hot. Add it right before you fill the tubes.  It won't smell as strong when it comes out of the pot but it will once the chap stick is hard you will smell it.

I used a syringe to fill the tubes and it was easy to just throw this out after I was done.

I kept one for myself and I tried it right away but like I said it was trial and error. The first batch was good because it stayed on my lips but didn't leave a mark on the glass and it did not come off at all,but it didn't have any shine whatsoever the second batch had more almond oil and less beeswax which is the recipe above and that had more shine which I prefer.
All in all I would say it was a success and I will be making more with different smells and maybe try some flavor too.

Gratitude for the Week-On Veterans and Their Mothers

I have several lists on my favorites list that I check on a couple times a week. I have it separated in sewing, crafts, funny and then there is inspiration. That is the blog that I go to whenever I feel like the wicked witch of the west and I want to run away from home.
That happens quite often but before I go and break something or I need perspective I go read some of my inspiration blogs. One of them is Clover lane.
It has anything and everything from cooking, cleaning, organizing or such posts as Gratitude.
Every week she writes about it and sometimes I agree and sometimes I really agree and sometimes I just read it and go on.
This week she wrote something that just made me think.
No matter what your stand is and what nationality you are this is for everyone.
It's about Life and walking a mile in someone else's shoes.
As a Mom. Not a Wife or a Husband but a Mom. What that means. And the answer to the question "Why am I doing this"?
So read it.....and you will be in awe.

Whale of a Tale

So as some of you know I am really pregnant at least that is what it feels like and what I look like.
I feel bad because I haven't posted in a while but I don't have anything that I can show you because they are presents. I am taking pictures as I go because I will be posting about them but right now I don't want to spoil the surprise.
I have to get my House ready for the Holidays and t is slow moving right now so I am starting early. That means lots of trips to Ikea and lots of hours at the sewing machine with breaks in between where I lay on the couch because the back & rib pain is killing me.
I know blah blah I am not the first person to be pregnant and it is not a disease.....leave me alone in my pain.
This weekend is the Glossip Girls workshop where we will be making our own lip gloss and chapstick so I will post about that this weekend.
For now I leave you to squash a hot water bottle in my back and feel sorry for myself.

Weekend Fails and Fun

When I lived in the States I had a fabulous job at a Flower Shop I made pretty good money and I worked crazy hours during holidays but I loved my job. It of course helped that I had great people that I worked with that I still talk to today. Thank you facebook.
The motto of the designer area was "We are messy but good"! We also had the Motto "if you can't glue it don't do it" but that is a whole other story. Anyway it has stuck with me till today. I am a total slob when it comes to being creative. How do you be neat and creative? Is it possible to make something awesome without being wrapped up in glue strings? Can it me done? Do you not find sequins and glitter in your underwear and bra at night when you take off your clothes? Are you weird?
I have so many things started that I can't finish because of one little thing.
The doily lamp:....Doilies are missing I have them coming from 3 different sources.
My shopper bags for Christmas and Birthday: I have everything ready for just waiting for the interfacing.... should be here any day now.
Halloween cookies....: just waiting for the dough to get cold enough. I tried it yesterday and it was so soft I went ballistic and started stabbing it. Yay for pregnancy hormones!!!
Washcloth everything but it looks like a mutant gotta start over.
2 wreathes.....: that are awesome but don't know what to do with them yet. That's ok I'll just leave them in the middle of the living room.

Finish my mom's coat that needs altered. All it needs is the buttons that I already bought and left lying around.
Lipgloss ingredients.......gotta pick a date to do that.

So I have little nests laying around that are driving my Husband nuts and making me feel guilty. I will make a list of when to start. I am great at making lists and then losing them.
When I die I will probably get lost going to Heaven......
As for the fun.

I had a Twilight Night at my house where we middle- aged hags  watched all three movies drank bloody Marys mine were virgin ate junk food and slobbered all over ourselves.
And yes I fell asleep and had to get up and use the bathroom 15 times but still finished all three.

Room of Doom

Do you have a room in your house that is the junk room? The one room or in some really neat people's houses it might just be a drawer but it is the place that all your crap goes to die.
You don't know where to put it and you are too much of a hoarder to throw it away so you put it in the room of doom. Well in my House it was the craft/trash/sewing/basement.
I would clean up the kitchen and like a little rat I would drag my crap downstairs and just put it somewhere because hey as long as I can't see it it must not be a problem.
When we found out we were having another Baby we had to rethink our living situation and decided to put the office in the Basement. WHAT!!!! But then I don't know what to do with my hoarder room.

There was only one thing to do.......clean it.
Yeah so  I am the Empress of Procrastinate Kingdom so that was not the first thing on my list but luckily the nesting instinct kicked in and I got the energy to do it.
It looks so good now and it is ready to get the computers, printers, and all the other officy stuff down there. I will show you pictures of before and after but be strong and for goodness sakes keep your judgy opinions to your dang self or I will go through your drawers and make fun of your hoarderself.

Ok now that you are sick to your stomach....

It is not the coziest room in the house but that's ok with me as long as it is clean and I know where all my stuff is that I didn't throw away. I had to fight for some of that stuff to not get thrown away with the hazmat team. I mean seriously who throws away scraps of fabric? Or real leather gloves bought at the flea market that smells like my grandmother? ( who has been terrorizing heaven since 1987) Nobody that's who.
So now that it is ready to receive the upstairs furniture I will go out and buy a crib. Soon.....I promise.

Oh...and yes that is a New Moon poster hanging on the wall.

Berry Bows

The other night was awake again like I usually am since I have been pregnant and I found a really cute tutorial at Ruffles & Stuff. I decided to make them for Christmas Presents and today I felt like making them.
I used the same measurements that were shown on this fabulous blog I can show you what I did but if you are looking for a great tutorial then go here. Ruffles & Stuff. There now nobody can say I don't give credit where credit is due.
I cut a strip a long piece of felt and cut a small v in one side and slid the other side halfway through.

cut a little strip and glue it around the middle and voila you have a cute little bow.
Embellish it with beads, sequins or little fabric strawberries like I did. You can glue them on little clips that you cover in ribbon first or you can slide a bobby pin through it.
I will making quite a few of these with different fabric and beads.

Bunny Soup

Don't worry no Bunnies were hurt in the process.

I like soup any kind of soup if it's warm and I can dunk bread and butter in it I'm happy.
So today I made Bunny Soup aka ( carrot soup.)

500gr. Carrots cut in small pieces
1 onion chopped
2 tbsp Flour
1,2 liter Vegetable Broth
200ml Whipping Cream

Peel your carrots and cut them in small pieces, put about a tbsp of butter in your pot and add carrots and onion and let it sautee for a minute. Add you flour so it coats all of the vegetables.
Now add your broth and let it cook for about 20 minutes.
Use your hand held blender to get it nice and smooth, add your cream and let it simmer for another 10 minute. salt, pepper and done
If you have a problem with the soup getting thick you can add instant mashed potatoes and that will thicken it right up.

Raspberry Vinaigrette

Last year due to lack of funds last Christmas was a DIY Festival. Everybody liked their gifts or they lied to me which is a possibility but I had fun so this year I am doing it again.
I have more time seeing as I am at home now and I have been really thinking about this and scouring the internet for cool things to make myself.  This particular gift I found in a magazine called Laviva.

You start out with a bottle of white wine vinegar

This is the bottle that the vinegar came in but I will buy smaller bottles to put it in and decorate. Of course you have to sterilize the bottle first before pouring the vinegar in.
You need red peppercorn not flakes.

I used frozen raspberries because they are available all year round and I don’t have to wash them just drop them in the bottle.

Of course I didn’t use that many I put about 6-7 in the bottle but you can put in more just make sure you have the room.

Put it in a dark cool place for about a week and turn it over and swirl it carefully everyday.
Pour it through a very fine strainer to catch all the berries and pepper and pour it in your bottles. Put away in a cool dark place till you give them away.
It will have a awesome pink color. That alone makes it awesome.

500ml White Wine Vinegar
100gr. raspberries
couple of red peppercorns
or a piece of ginger
That’s it, piece of cake huh?

Take a Hike!!

For Christopher's 40th Birthday we went on a hike and it was different and fun. It started out chaotic because we were so many people and everybody came from a different direction and some got lost and some were late, you know typical.
We all had a blast and it is definitely something we will do again.
wandern33 wandern1 wandern2 wandern3 WANDERN4 wandern5 wandern6 wandern7 wandern9 wandern10 wandern11 wandern12 wandern13 wandern14 wandern15 wandern16 wandern17 wandern18 wandern19 wandern20 wandern21 wandern22 wandern23 wandern24 wandern25 wandern26 wandern27 wandern29 wandern30 wandern31 wandern32
This child had fun even if it looks like Dana went through the woods on her face.
So maybe this is a tradition that we will keep alive.
