Halloween Groove

A I posted a couple days ago I am hosting a Halloween party for the first time ever...I always have parties but usually they are Christmas or Birthday extravaganza's so this is a first for me and I am loving it. I am making my kids help me with everything so the can't say I never do anything fun.  (Hey mom remember that guilt trip?)
So yesterday we started the Pumpkin Carving Adventure.
The party isn't till Sunday so the Pumpkins have to hold till then so I sprayed them with Aussie Hairspray like a crazy woman. It should hold good enough till then seeing as they are outside and I scraped them really good.
We bought 3 pumpkins so that each kid and me could have one to make what ever they wanted. I should have remembered that I would end up starting and finishing Enya's Pumpkin because she picked a template that had little spider legs that you would carefully have to saw out. (That is not going to happen with a 7yr old.) So I was carving, scraping and picking seeds and gunk off my shirt for almost 2 hours last night.
But the reward is so wonderful not only do I have awesome looking pumpkins I also have something that I can scream at the kids the next time they tell me that they are bored and I need to do something fun with them.
 Yeah Good times!
And here are the fruits of our Labor....

Oh yeah if you see Joshua tell him what a great job he did on his pumpkin. He carved it from start to finish by his self. He accidentally poked his eyes out so now it is a blind bat but other then that he did and awesome job.

And now here is mine......if you know me you are not surprised that this is what I chose.

Mummy Lights

So I decided to have a Halloween party this year because I really miss Halloween and they are just not into the spirit as much here. So I had to fix that. I found these adorable little Votives at this siteThrifty Decor Chick: Stinkin' cute Halloween!
I started out with these Votives: 4 for 1,99
Googley Eyes 100: 4,95
Bandage 4 Meters: 1,25
Burned the crap out of my finger: Priceless!
Here they are just with eyes which is already cute as all get out.

They were really easy to make and I love how cute they are.

Ps: I couldn't decide which picture was cuter so I posted both of them. :-)

Got Wood?

As I already posted this month we got a man-boob eating fireplace for the Kitchen. Well this morning at 7:45 in the fricken AM!!! the Chimney Sweep was here and told us we could fire her up.
We had ordered in the wood already together with our neighbor and today right on time they delivered it.
What I didn't know was that they dump it in the driveway and we have to carry it and stack it ourselves.
Not that it is beneath me but it is a pain in the A**.

But now we have lot's of firewood and we will have a cozy Kitchen this winter.

Yes I know you are asking yourself what the hell I am wearing. I was not prepared to be lugging firewood.

20,000 Projects

This is what pattern making turns me into.........weird looking
I have been working on school stuff of course but I also tried to make something for myself the other day and trust me it was not pretty. It was a vest out of the awesome red fabric that I bought the other week at the Stoff Market. I look like I drive the garbage truck when I wear it so I am making a kids jacket out of it.
I made a corsage dress today and it fits so I am using it for the next 3 outfits that I am making. The Haltertop dress and I have to make a dress that is 50's inspired so I will use this dress for that also. I am making it as easy for myself as I can. I only have two days to construct the pattern and two days to sew the complete outfit so I am not getting all fancy. The nice fabric will have to be enough and I am making accessories to go with everything.
In other news I had a Dye mishap this week. Enya had (yes I said had) silver metallic Winter jacket that always looked like hell because kids get dirty and don't care about there stuff. I would wash it and it would look nice till she got home from school. So I decided as savvy as I am that I would dye it black and it would not look as bad plus she likes the color black so it was a win, win situation. Not! It didn't work.

I call the color melon poop. But Enya likes it so she will wear it with pride and I will mark this off as experience.

Drama is the word.

After I told my sister that Joshua had scarlet fever she dubbed Germany medevil. Well sister let me tell you that after exstensive research in my medical books Internet I have found out that there is no vaccine for scarlet fever because it is easily treated with antibiotics. So your children can get it too. But if we have a case of the pest you can go back to thinking that we are peasants. lol
But just to update you he is doing good and back to his old normal, annoying, bored self.

We have gotten our new subject for our fashion show 2011 and the name is Drama!!!
It is evening wear that has the colors Black & Red and it has to be floor length. How's that for creativity? You don't get to do whatever you want....oh no they even tell you what material to use and what silhouette it has to have. Project Runway it is not.
The only cool thing about this is that it is supposed to be inspired by Twilight. And I love me some Sparkley Man.
I have already decided to have it short in the front and long in the back because I don't want to look like a cake topper.
As soon as I sketch it I will post it till then you get to see the mess I am making.

Oh yeah I forgot I made my MIL a wreath for her door because she kept threatening me she that she was going to steal mine.

Busy Busy...

As always I have been busy. What else is new?
But this time I was getting ready for the Kids to go on a week long trip to Austria with my Parents. Well Friday the oldest got sick with what I thought was a cold. So I made tea, gave him Tylenol cold medicine and made him stay in bed. when Joshua gets sick it is always pretty bad because he gets more than one thing at once. ( Pleurisy & Stomachflu)  Yeah great mixture I know.
Joshua is almost as tall as I am so I can't carry him anymore so when he gets sick we either have the Dr. come here or my main squeeze has to take him. So that is what we did last night when we pulled up his shirt and saw that his whole upper body front and back is full of some kind of rash. The emergency Dr. wasn't sure if it is measles so I have to go back today and get the for sure.
This morning at 7am when my mom came to get the Kids we had to tell her that it is a no go with Joshua. So she left with Enya for a week long vacation. Josh was very upset but we promised that we would make it up to him.
So instead of having a week long hiatus from the kids and taking care of school and projects I now have a red cross flag hanging out my door and I am taking care of a rash and a fever.  YAY for Momhood!!!  :-)
Update: Joshua does not have the measles.....he has scarlet fever and none of us in the family have ever had it so crap!

But I did manage to do some fun stuff before the brown stuff hit the fan.
Enya and I made Cinnabons. I love cinnabons but we can't really get them here unless you make them yourself so that is what we did. I checked the internet and found a recipe for them and changed it a little so there wasn't as much sugar in them because we don't eat things that sweet here in Krautland. They turned out really good and now I see myself getting fat. Surprise!!! they have like 8000 calories in one.
Some things are just worth it dang it.....

Yesterday was the Holland Stoffmarkt and I went. It was as always an overload for me because there is so much to choose from. I did buy some material that I need for my second outfit for the fashion show. I am going to look like a dominatrix but hey I didn't pick the subject so I guess I will have to make it work.

Yesterday the shops were open in Mannheim and there were also a several weddings at the church downtown and I couldn't figure out why you would get married on that day. It was 10.10.2010. That's why so many people were getting married.
Hey to each it's own.
You wanna get married downtown on a Sunday when all the stores are open and there are a ton of people staring at you and your balloons that you let fly in front of the church get stuck in the scaffolding that is going up the front?....be my guest. You won't forget this day no matter what date it has.

Ok the mean lady has to go take care of sick child.

Wanna buy a Brooch?

Today we had a fun day making brooches for school. Well some of us made them for school and some of us....that would be me made them just for fun. I tried to make the brooch that I saw on the Internet. http://news.holidash.com/2010/04/23/mothers-day-corsage/ but I have to admit that they don't quite look like that but I still like them. We had a blast making them which you can see in the pictures. We started with a leisurely breakfast....

And then we got busy. I wanted to make a practice brooch before I used my one piece of black felt which is what I really wanted. So we cut out the pieces and started gluing them and let me tell you I still have hairy fingernails.
I kept the green one and I will probably make something cute for Enya with it.
It wasn't a hard project but it was very time consuming.

 Somebody's having fun.

Mary's Brooch looked like a mouse in the beginning and she really took her time making it but it was a labor of love by the time it was done it turned out really cute and she will be wearing it at our Fashion Show 2011 so it has to be perfect.

Our Table was a hawt mess as you can see.

I made a red one for Christmas and a black one for my wool coat that I wear in the weather or for my vest that is really boring looking.
Here is the finished product. I will take a picture when I have it on my coat.

New Flo!

Yesterday I got a new wood floor by our very crafty neighbor Vhebi. I love the way it turned out and we are hoping that it will be warmer come winter when it is colder then a witches tit in a brass bra in there.
It gets really cold on the enclosed porch in the winter and we usually sit there with the oven on and the space heater. But it is still so damn cold it isn't even fun. So we got a wood burning stove and Christopher got that installed. Which I have to tell you the funny story that goes with that.
He was trying to get the two pipes to go together and he was all proud that he did all by his lonesome...till he realized that he got his t-shirt stuck in the pipe. I laughed my ass off as usual when he does stuff like that. He is so smart but when it comes to everyday stuff like walking up the stairs you would think he is attempting brain surgery.

I think he has his man boob stuck here already.
He got it out and then he laughed at himself thank goodness because it sure would suck if I was the only one laughing.

But as usual he got it all figured out and now it works like a charm except that it sucks in the air from the chimney and blows it in the basement. But that is a job for the Chimney Sweep that still comes door to door dressed in black here in Germany.

It looks cozy....
